A root canal, also known as endodontic therapy is a procedure for repairing the root of a tooth that has become damaged or infected. Most root canals happen in two stages.

At our office, we will want to take X-rays to help us determine how serious the root is damage or the infection is. If the tooth has suffered too much decay or damage it might need to be completely extracted.

We will then remove excess enamel and any decay to gain access to the infected parts of the root. You will be given an local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. The canals are disinfected with antiseptic and antibacterial solutions. The infected root will be completely removed and replaced with a medicated, rubber-like material. This gives the tooth back most of its original integrity and allows us to create an abutment which can be used to anchor a crown to later.

Once the abutment is formed we will make an impression of the area and a permanent crown is made. With proper care and cleaning the new crown and abutment can last for many years to come.
